The majority of the fruit for this wine was sourced from the Mud House vineyard in the upper Wairau Valley. The remainder is from carefully selected grower vineyards in the Awatere, Ure and Wairau Valleys.
<p>The grape growing season in Marlborough started with some rather cool and unsettled weather during flowering which resulted in low crops across all varieties. The cool weather continued through summer and although we can’t say it warmed up too much, the weather stayed settled with very little rain pressure and we were able to hang out our grapes until they reached full ripeness and flavour. We didn’t harvest until well into May— almost one month later than usual. This long season produced some intensely flavoured and concentrated wines.</p>

<p>After harvesting in the cool of the night, the grapes were transported to the winery and gently crushed and pressed. The grapes were kept cool and protected by oxidation. After cold settling, each batch was cool fermented in stainless steel using a variety of cultured yeasts to add complexity to the blend and to retain the fresh fruit characteristics. The cool fermentation lasted approximately 2 weeks and the wine was chilled and racked off yeast lees shortly after. The wine was blended after the completion of fermentation, then carefully balanced and prepared for bottling.</p>
